We have just finished the Polish translation of justroutes.com today. You can select it from the language dropdown on the right hand side of the screen. There are about 8-9 phrases left for translation, but if you spot any issues, just let me know.

GPS

Our next big feature we are looking into, is allowing the site to work with GPS enabled phones. If anyone has any useful tips on this, can you send them to vinny@justroutes.com . I hope to allow people to visit our site, in such a way that their location is automatically discovered. Then one click they can get to any location, or if they visit one of our corporate sites, the phone will tell them how to get to the theatre, restartaunt, etc straight away.

Thanks in advance,

Vinny

Translation

A Chara,

When we built this website, we wanted to as many users as possible as quickly as possible. To meet this, Justroutes.com is now translated into Irish and French . More languages are coming soon as we have Polish and Spanish nearly completed with Dutch and German just over the horizon.

French, German,Polish and Spanish are the main languages spoken outside of our national languages in Ireland. Irish is rarely included as a translation for a site unless it is for a government site, etc. I can see the tide turning as the internet continues to push the Irish language to the front, with video websites like Intruders.tv wanting more and more videos as Gaeilge. We also have the Irish translation for almost every street in Dublin, which can be seen as a valuable teaching aid to our children.

If there is any other languages you would like the website translated to, or simply just spot some errors etc, please let me know.

Mise le Meas,

Vinny

More Routes

After spending a week checking out the sites of Dublin we have added another 1300 Dublin Bus stops to justroutes.com . This makes up around 40 new routes. I believe there around 200 routes in Dublin, anyone got a more exact figure? I hope to have an RSS feed so that people can view the names of new routes coming soon.

In other news, we hope to have all the Bus Eireann Expressway routes(about 40 of them) mapped by Monday, so that it will be done in time for the FOWA conference in London on Tuesday.

FOWA baby, yeah!

We are pleased to announce that we have been selected to exhibit at the Future Of Web Applications (FOWA) conference next week in London. Ryan Carson (who you may remember as the Justin Timberlake lookalike from the Dublin DemoBar), after traveling across Europe, has shortlisted JustRoutes along with ten other startups from across the continent to come to the big smoke and show their wares next to such more established luminaries as Microsoft and Sun Microsystems. This is a great opportunity for us to meet some of the top programmers and developers in the world and show them what we are all about. We will be flying out on Tuesday, keep an eye on the blog for updates from our world tour of London.

Till next time….

Taxis in Dublin

Can anyone tell me if this is correct?

I was chatting to a taxi driver about justroutes.com when he angrily told me his thoughts on the transport setup we have in Ireland. While Paris have an underground metro, they only have 2000 taxis for 12 million people. It seems we have 13,500 taxis for 1 million people. Could this be correct? The taxi driver seemed pretty convinced by it! I hope its not true, as many people at 12 at night in Dublin will tell you that there are not enough taxis in Dublin. Strange times this Celtic Tiger has brought to us.

Facebook

Hi Again,

If any of our readers use Facebook, the following could be very useful to you. We are mulling over a new facebook application, available here. We want to bring our routes to where our users hang out, rather than expecting them to come just blindly to use. It is still in the very early stages, but if you can think of anything to add to it, please let us know at vinny@justroutes.com

Best Regards,

DemoBar

Hi again,

We are delighted to have been picked to present at Ireland’s DemoBar which was held in the lovely if packed surrounding of ELY HQ on Hanover Quay. Over 200 people attended the event, with Ryan Carson being the invited guest.

It seems the majority of companies involved in startups on the Internet were present here in form or another. A large pity that a number of the larger established companies in the Irish Scene like daft.ie, etc could not turn up for the event to share their experiences. But with great food and drink supplied by the reliables like Microsoft and Hosting365, the night went off without a hitch. Many thanks to Web2Ireland for always pushing Irish Technology to the fore front and hopefully the Irish Media will give the group the exposure it desires.

DemoBar proved to be excellent for us, as it gave us a very exact deadline to get the Demo version of our site: justroutes.com out onto the internet and working for everyone. Many thanks also to the people who let me sleep on the couches and beds all around Dublin as we tapped out the code for the site:)

Ken Mcgurie has done a nice article on all the companies here

JustRoutes.com launch

Hi All,

JustRoutes.com is now in early testing! A new exciting project from the makers of UseAMap.com is coming to your screens soon. JustRoutes.com will be mapping public transportation network of the entire island of Ireland. The end result for you, the user is that with 3 simple mouse clicks on our map, you can find all the routes from your starting point to your destination for free. If there is no direct routes between your locations, we will tell you how to get there using connections among all the different types of transport, for example, take the LUAS Red Line to Abbey Street and then changing over to 16A Northbound..

At the moment, we have over 2500 stops recorded, including all the LUAS, DART and Suburban links for Dublin. More will be coming daily.

If you have any thoughts or feedback on this, please let us know at vinny@justroutes.com .

Best Regards,

Vinny Glennon
