I’m pleased to say that we are now beta testing a mobile version of JustRoutes

Now you can get the routes between you and your destination while you are on the move.

To do so, simply point your phone’s internet browser to mob.justroutes.com

You will notice that the biggest difference between this and the main site is the lack of the large city map. Don’t worry we still have the bus stops mapped in we have just opted for a simpler approach to cut down on those data charges

as always comments and suggestions are welcome so keep em coming

I’ll post some screenshots tommorrow

JustRoutes.com mashes bus and rail timetables with Google maps, and the location of every single bus-stop on the routes covered. The result is one of the most useful web applications imaginable for anyone who wants to get from A to B.

Last Summer, Vincent Glennon and Dave Rooney had the idea for a website that would help them to get around Dublin. 6 weeks later they launched the first version at the Web2Ireland Demobar / FOWA Roadtrip event in Dublin, where this interview was recorded for Intruders.TV.

Since then, they’ve added another 2000 Dublin Bus stops and started work on the national bus routes. They now have all Dublin inbound routes covered and all expressway routes as well. Altogether, half of the national routes are covered.

They’ve been named as one of the top 10 new startups in Europe and they exhibited at FOWA in London. Blognation’s Ewan Spence recorded a podcast with them there.

JustRoutes.com is great story of entrepreneurship, which illustrates beautifully what can be done with the current state of technology. Dave and Vinny have had no outside investment or help. All they had was a great idea, and the Web 2.0 ecosystem provided all the tools and resources they needed to build it into a working, useful application. This is one to watch!

As part of Dublin Transport Office plans to free up traffic for the busy Christmas period, they have set up freeflow.ie again for another year. But this time around, they have linked off to our site in their menu. Nice one, I hope this will be of use trying to get into the City Center this month. While it is only a small step, it is excellent as it is directly informing the people we want to get in touch with. I have always found the DTO to be the most friendly and helpful of all the agenies in Dublin dealing with transportation which I have come across so far.

JustRoutes.com is an online travel planner created through imaginative use of existing services – otherwise known in some circles as a mashup. It’s all about making better use of public transport. At the moment it’s Dublin focused with 251 Bus, Luas, Dart and train routes to help you get where you’re going. But according to Vincent Glennon and Dave Rooney who set up the service, JustRoutes will eventually cover every public transport route for Ireland.

hola folks,

I’m writing this from our rather oddly proportioned hotel room in London. It’s mad - the bathroom looks like something from a 60’s sci fi show, but enough about the crazy feng shui of suburban London and on with the post.

We have been traveling since 7 am and have to say that we have pretty much used almost every sort of public transport possible. The day has been somewhat odd in many respects, we had an auspicious start with a near traffic accident at 8 am this morning (if you are reading this blonde blue car lady - we are really really sorry - our taxi driver was a lil, ahem, special)

Our flight thankfully was a little less eventful as i slept all the way. once we arrived i was eager to check my mail in order to confirm the hotel details, London it seems is very shiny but really sucks for wifi access, we walked around for 3 hours in the oxford street area before finding a starbucks with net access for the rather extortionate price of £5 per hour - was not impressed. To his credit the dude behind the counter apologised before telling me the prices, surely there must be better wifi though? answers on a postcard please.

Leaving central London we found ourselves on the Docklands Light Railway which is really weird as there is no driver sitting in the front, it looks kind of like a stretched Luas, adding to the rather surreal situation was the fact that were standing in the station from the movie 28 weeks later which was still heavily barricaded and covered in CCTV cameras.

Eventually however, the bizaro tram left us outside our hotel, we checked in, Vinny started coding and i crashed grabbing a few hours sleep.

Tomorrow is the first day if the conference, I’ll post some first impressions in the morning.

take it h

Dave
